This photo shows the airframe of the F-24 after having the metal work and metal priming completed. Rigging the cables for the control surfaces is now being completed before the stringers are fastened in place.
This airframe has been modified (date yet to be determined) to accept a Ranger Inline Inverted, 6 cylinder air cooled engine. The picture shows the extended horizontal mounting members for the inline engine mounting. As soon as the cables and wires are strung the stringers can be attached and the covering process can begin. Work has begun all ready to make new wing ribs.
The photograph below on the left shows one of the wing ribs that are being constructed. Note the size and new material being used in making the new ribs. The center photograph is of our Volunteer fitting all the intricate parts into a jig which establishes uniformity in the finished product. The right photograph is of our volunteers that have been most involved with this restoration program.

This type aircraft was highly valued by Hollywood notables such as Robert Taylor, Tyrone Power, Mary Pickford, and the Bergen brothers. This type plane was also used by civilians who patrolled our Atlantic coast line prior to our entry into WWII and is credited for sinking an enemy submarine.
